The Sidama Liberation Front is an active rebel group in the Sidama region of Ethiopia. It is allied with two other rebel groups, namely the Ogaden National Liberation Movement and the Oromo Liberation Front and is fighting against the government of Ethiopia for the self-determination of the Sidama people.
The Front's motto is "Struggle for Freedom, Justice and Democracy". In July 1999, the National Council changed the name of the organization from the "Sidama Liberation Movement" to the "Sidama Liberation Front".
In the former administrative system of Ethiopia, a region called
Sidamo (capital city: Awassa) existed in the south of the country along
the Kenyan border. Sidamos represented 2.4% of the total population of
Ethiopia (including Eritrea at that time). In the new system, the
former Sidama region is now included in Oromia and Southern State.
Sidamo language is rattached to the Kushitic branch of Chamito-Semitic
languages, as well as, among other languages spoken in the Eastern
African horn, Afar-Saho, Galla, and Somali.

According to its website,
the Sidama Liberation Front has a 3:5 flag - horizontally divided red-white-blue.
A blue triangle is placed along the fly and stretches over half of the flag.
Seven stars are placed in the blue triangle and probably represent
a constellation I have not been able to identify.
